Pluto

Pluto formal designation 134340 Pluto, is the second-most-massive known dwarf planet in the Solar System (after Eris) and the tenth-most-massive body observed directly orbiting the Sun. Originally classified as the ninth planet from the Sun, Pluto was recategorized as a dwarf planet and plutoid due to the discovery that it is one of several large bodies within the newly charted Kuiper belt.

Pluto features in the film Alien Resurrection the spacecraft USM Auriga is in orbit around the far side when the Betty arrives with it's crew of mercenaries and cargo of miners in stasis.

The spacecraft USM Auriga is in orbit around Pluto as the spacecraft Betty approaches with its crew.

Later the Auriga is shown stationed on the far side of Pluto, a location General Perez and the scientists have chosen due to the experiments being performed, something Perez discusses with Captain Elgyn as the cargo of miners are sold.

USM Auriga stays in orbit until the escape of the Aliens from their chambers whereabouts with a preconfigured flight plan returns the spacecraft back in orbit around Earth in event of such a situation.

Alien Resurrection

Although gameplay starts with Ripley, the game intro describes the story up until Ripley's and the aliens' escape. This includes the Betty arriving at the Auriga in orbit around Pluto with their cargo of miners in stasis, docking and boarding and with the scientist having taken the chest burster from Ripley and grown it, so it can produce alien eggs.

From there gameplay begins with Ripley escaping, the game Alien Resurrection then follows the films' storyline, including characters, weapons and spacecrafts.

Concept

20th Century Fox hired Joss Whedon to write the film's script. Whedon had to rewrite the script in a way that would bring back the Ripley character, rather than use Newt's character. The idea of cloning was suggested by producers David Giler and Walter Hill, who opposed the production of Alien Resurrection, as they thought it would ruin the franchise.

Production

VFI Effects 3D, LA created almost all CGI for the spacecrafts including the Auriga, the Betty and the Lifeboats using matte paintings and green screens. These were then filmed with the miniatures at 60 frames a second and when slowed in post production produced a feel of zero gravity.

Timeline

The film Alien Resurrection is set after the film Alien 3, some 200 years after Ellen Ripley dies at the Class C Work Correctional Unit on Fiorina 'Fury' 161.
