Used by the Rookie in Aliens v Predator 3 singleplayer campaigns as a need to override terminals and access rooms and lifts. These are necessary and carried by default, a marine must wait as it operates.

Aliens (film)
Used by Hicks for accessing Hadley's Hope entrance leading into the living quarters in the film Aliens, Hick runs a by-pass gaining access from the team.

Aliens: Colonial Marines
A similiar device which Hicks used in the film Aliens is also available for marines in the game. There are also sensors which marines need to install at certain locations in Operations, these give increased range for marine's sensors.
