Name

The Escape Craft is a spacecraft in service with Weyland-Yutani, it is used as a means of departure from USCSS Prometheus in the film 'Prometheus'.

A Weyland-Yutani built craft also called a 'Lifeboat', the spacecraft is a multi-engined transport equipped with manoeuvring thrusters and is docked on the rear of Prometheus.

The Escape Craft is a Class D Crew Escape Module capable of automatic medium-range navigation and landing this spacecraft forms part of the structure of USCSS Prometheus.

Interactions

Axe1

The Escape Craft forms part of Vickers' suite, this includes a MedPod Bay, cockpit and a number of rooms and is attached at the rear of USCSS Prometheus.

Vickers uses it as her room, the craft itself is jettisoned when USCSS Prometheus sets a collision course with the Derelict just before crashing and lands on the surface, damaged but intact.

Shaw goes to the Escape Craft for supplies after Prometheus collides with the Derelict. There she is confronted by a creature and because a Terraformer follows her into the Escape Craft attacking her, she releases the creature from the spacecraft's MedPod Bay which then grabs, holds and then kills the Terraformer.

Continuity

Escape Crafts are manoeuvrable and are capable of making short journeys in space as well as on planets.
There is one Escape Craft 'Class D Crew Escape Module' on Prometheus.

On-set

Filming from Landmannalaugar, Iceland was blended with the CGI of the Escape Craft.
Vickers' level in early concepts was located as in the film but was linked to the bridge by a corridor, in some designs there was a secret soldiers hypersleep room (between bridge and Vickers' level). Other differences also included a more complex plan which had the areas surveillance console, office, living room, med pod room, medical supplies, guard niche, dining room, bedroom with bathroom and airlock.

Filming on set and on location occurred in Pinewood Toronto Studios, Toronto, Shepperton Studios in Surrey, Landmannalaugar, Iceland and Ciudad de la Luz audio visual complex in Alicante, Spain were sets of the interior and exterior including the cargo bays, landing struts, Ejection Pods and Escape Craft were produced, green screens allowed superimposing of the CGI environment with filming added later by FX.

Filming from Landmannalaugar, Iceland was blended with the CGI of the Escape Craft as Shaw went towards it for supplies after narrowly avoiding being crushed by the Derelict with the interior that doubled as Vickers room, with Shaw, the Terraformer, Trilobite and later the Deacon filmed on set.

Production

Early designs (some included in production) include a similiar number of levels that were connected both by stairs and a lift. These levels were centered around a circular room on each floor with tubular corridors surrounding them, with other rooms leading off of these.
The Escape Craft would detach and land safely on the surface of a planet in most situations.

MPC (Moving Picture Company) worked with Scott and Stammers on action sequences, the space travel shots and shots of the planet's atmosphere with cloud formations and electrical storms adding Prometheus' landing sequence, including the crash of the USCSS Prometheus and the Derelict as it sets off for Earth and the Escape Craft and Ejection Pod as they are ejected before impact.

Timeline

The crew's mission in Prometheus takes 21/2 years to reach LV223.
